The Sappiest Place on Earth

Valentine’s Day is here, and like many people I’m at Disneyland with my sweetheart! Here are a few of the romantic spots we’ll be visiting this weekend.

Sometime around 3pm, when my feet are aching and I need to relax, we’ll have a seat on a comfy couch at the Al Fresco Lounge, overlooking the patio at the Golden Vine Winery. A little wine and cheese and thou, eh?

How about a dance? Saturday nights means swing dancing at the Carnation Plaza Gardens, and it’s one of my favorite spots to people watch. I’m not a dancer, but I always marvel at the people who get out there on the dance floor and strut their stuff. If you’re like me, you can still have a seat (maybe with a hot chocolate) and enjoy holding hands with your sweetheart.

Here’s a very unusual treat for your Valentine: take advantage of the rare opportunity to stroll the decks of the Mark Twain Riverboat during a moonlight cruise of the Rivers of America. Once upon a time, the Mark Twain paddled downriver every night, with music and romance; the introduction of Fantasmic meant that the riverboat was taken out of service before dark. And with another amazing stroke of luck, the Coca-Cola Refreshment Corner is currently undergoing renovation, so the fantastic Ragtime Piano Player now appears on the Mark Twain as well!

Fireworks are a must, but don’t get all cozy with thousands of other guests when you want to concentrate on your sweetheart. Instead, do what I do: watch the fireworks from the walkway in front of Casey Junior Circus Train in Fantasyland. You’ll get a 360° view of the fireworks, which are launched from atop the Fantasyland buildings as well as the backstage areas behind Toon Town. And you’ll have space to wrap your arms around someone special.

The later it gets, the younger I feel. It’s worth braving the lines at the very end of the night to take a flying tour to Neverland with your Valentine. You know that room in Peter Pan where you glide through the air surrounded by stars? Wouldn’t that be a great place for a good night kiss?

Have a fun, romantic Valentine’s weekend, and remember: there are cameras on those dark rides!
